This Virus Sucks

Centsability_ Just another post about how crappy this virus is. My boss mentioned that management is considering either a 2-week shutdown over Easter, forcing everyone to take their annual leave, or will start asking some people to work part-time. I had a brief panic about what that would mean for me, about my budget, ability to stay ahead of my mortgage payments, my wedding plans.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I got over the initial panic because even if that happens, I am still in a fortunate position just having a job. Even though my *official* emergency fund is low, I have money sitting in my offset that I can redraw in case I get desperate.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s times like these that demonstrate why an emergency fund (enough to cover 3-6 months of expenses) should be an essential element in all of our financial plans. I didn’t end up investing that $500 in shares (that I referred to in my previous post), I will hold onto that just in case the economic situation gets even worse.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m thinking of everyone who have lost their jobs, this is such a crazy time. Stay strong, budget and focus on your essentials.

How do tax deductions work?

Centsability_ Some people think that “claiming things on tax” means you’ll get 100% of the cost back. I wish! 😃
