ANNOUNCEMENT:

Masses for the Feast Day of St Josemaría Escriva

Unfortunately, the Mass for the Feast Day of St Josemaria at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, as well as the Mass in the West, has been cancelled. There is a tentative booking for 6 October 2020 at the Cathedral but this Mass will only go ahead if they can have 500+ people attending.

St Marys Star of the Sea West Melbourne will be streaming the Mass in honour of St Josemaria on:

  • Friday 26 June at 12:30pm
  • Saturday 27 June at 11am

For more details please visit: https://www.stmaryswestmelbourne.org/

Naturally attending Mass in person, if you’re able to, would be the best way to celebrate. The Prelate of Opus Dei is also streaming his Mass in Rome. Details of the Prelate’s Mass can be found on www.opusdei.org.au

Reflections on the life of St Josemaría Escriva

St Josemaría went through a similar but obviously very different kind of isolation. With the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, he was forced to take refuge in various places including the Consulate of Honduras in Madrid. Nonetheless, it was still a time when gathering for Mass and administering the sacraments were outlawed.

Although we’re not able to celebrate the life of this great saint together, we can still take a moment to reflect on his saintly journey. Below are resources that can help us with this:

“Let us allow Saint Josemaria’s trust in God to enter our hearts”

Homily of Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz at the Mass for the feast of Saint Josemaría on June 26th, at the Basilica of Saint Eugene in Rome.
